What Real Madrid fans are saying about Dani Ceballos after his performance v Leganes

Dani Ceballos would have known full well that forcing his way into Real Madrid’s starting line up wouldn’t exactly be easy.

The reigning European champions have an abundance of world-class midfielders in their ranks including the likes of Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Isco.

However, following his impressive performances for Real Betis and then Spain at last summer’s Under-21 European Championships, Ceballos was approached by Madrid - and he was never going to turn down that once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Fast-forward nine months, though, and Ceballos could be forgiven if he feels he made a terrible mistake last summer.

The gifted 21-year-old has only made a handful of appearances for Madrid since his £14.5 million move to the Bernabeu and his career is in severe danger of stalling.

Ceballos, who was left furious after being brought on by Zinedine Zidane with seconds left to play against Leganes back in February, started against the same opponents in La Liga on Saturday evening.

Reaction to Ceballos's performance

This was the attacking midfielder’s first La Liga start since October - but how did he fare?

Well, on the whole, the reaction to his performance has been less than positive, with Madrid fans on social media laregely disappointed by his showing.

Many supporters feel that Ceballos’s underwhelming performance justifies Zidane’s decision to overlook him for most of the season.

They were left disappointed that he failed to produce any special moments in Madrid’s narrow 2-1 victory.

Others feel he deserves more chances

However, there were fans who saw the positives from Ceballos's performance and believe he needs more minutes to help build his confidence.

Those praising him want to see more of him in Madrid’s starting line-up over the coming weeks.

Goals from Gareth Bale and Borja Mayoral put Madrid 2-0 up at half-time before Darko Brasanac pulled one back for the visitors.

However, Zidane’s side held on to reduce the gap on second-placed Atletico to one point.
