A huge triple-threat title match could soon be added to WWE Backlash a week today at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, meaning five championships will be defended at the event.

So far, there are four title matches booked for the event. Seth Rollins will defend the Intercontinental Championship vs The Miz, Alexa Bliss will have her Raw Women's title rematch against Nia Jax, AJ Styles will defend the WWE title once more against Shinsuke Nakamura, and Charlotte Flair will have her rematch for the SmackDown Women's title vs Carmella.

Daniel Bryan will be facing Big Cass, while Roman Reigns takes on Samoa Joe at Backlash as well, but according to reports, WWE could be adding a huge triple-threat match for the United States Championship very soon.

According to Rajah, United States Champion Jeff Hardy will defend his title at Backlash next weekend in a triple-threat match against fellow SmackDown Live superstars Randy Orton and Shelton Benjamin.

The Viper was only recently United States Champion, but he lost the title to Jinder Mahal at WrestleMania 34 in a fatal-four way match which also involved Bobby Roode and Rusev. This will most likely be his rematch for the title.

As for The Gold Standard, this will be his first United States title match since he lost his rematch for the title against Montel Vontavious Porter (MVP) back in March 2009 during his first run with the WWE.

The Charismatic Enigma, on the other hand, captured the title from Mahal just over a week after WrestleMania, and successfully defended it against The Modern Day Maharaja at the Greatest Royal Rumble event in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia last Friday.

This would certainly be an interesting match to see happen at Backlash, especially since WWE has only recently begun the singles pushes for both Hardy and Benjamin.

You would think Jeff would be the favourite to retain the title, but WWE could switch it over to Orton or Benjamin in order to keep this three-man feud going beyond next week's pay-per-view.
