If there’s anybody on the main roster right now that has pressure on them to impress, it’s hard to look past Drew McIntyre.
You could say that the former NXT Champion was doomed from the start. Debuting on the main roster as a fresh-faced 24-year-old is no easy task, especially when you’ve been anointed ‘the chosen one’ by Vince McMahon himself with expectations of capturing a world title.
An Intercontinental title reign, 3MB and independent runs later - along with an NXT Championship under his belt - McIntyre is back on Monday Night RAW with Dolph Ziggler by his side and they’ve proven to be a big thorn in the side of Titus Worldwide.
With plenty of speculation circulating regarding a potentially huge push for McIntyre, we saw a better glimpse of what his intentions are alongside Ziggler on the red brand, with the latter still to sign a new deal with the company.
During his promo, McIntyre spoke about being dangerous to a locker room full of superstars that have gone soft, while claiming he is the wake-up call and reality check the company needs. Following on from that short yet impactful promo, WWE Hall of Famer has heaped the praise on McIntyre.
Speaking on E&C’s Pod of Awesomeness, the Rated R Superstar claimed that the world is McIntyre’s oyster if he continues delivering similar promos like that, per the comments section on Reddit.
He said: “I saw it and I was like this is exactly when he needs to be doing, you could tell he felt and believed everything he said.
“That promo to me, I was like, there’s the guy right there. It was really good. Short, sweet and he said everything he needed to say. There was full commitment on his part there and if he keeps doing that, the world is his oyster.
“It was really, really good. To me, it was a very, very dropping of the hammer moment. So, it was pretty cool.”
It comes as no surprise that everyone is expecting a lot from McIntyre, especially since he’s spent time away and improved in each area. Now it’s the time to impress and if you’ve been given the thumbs up by somebody like Edge who is emotionally invested, then McIntyre is certainly on the right track.
If he is to be the one that potentially sends Ziggler packing from the WWE, then we need more promos like this to have the fans behind him.
