What Real Madrid tweeted Barcelona after they sealed the La Liga title

Barcelona have made it seven La Liga titles in the previous 10 years following their 4-2 victory against Deportivo on Sunday night.

Ernesto Valverde’s side sit 11 points clear of their nearest challengers, Atletico Madrid, having played a game less and are still unbeaten in the league.

In truth, they’ve cruised to their 25th league title.

And it’s been a pretty decent week or so for the Catalan side after they also claimed their 30th Copa del Rey trophy following their 5-0 thrashing of Sevilla last weekend.

They may have crashed out of the Champions League at the hands of Roma, but a domestic double is still a pretty successful season for Barcelona.

Their El Clasico rivals, Real Madrid, have been left trailing in their wake in the table as they sit a massive 15 points behind them.

Zinedine Zidane’s side also crashed out of the Copa del Rey after being shocked by lowly Leganes.

But Madrid made sure they congratulated Barca on their achievements - although it did come about 15 hours after their rivals had clinched the title.

Madrid’s official Twitter account wrote: “Congratulations to @FCBarcelona for winning LaLiga and the Copa del Rey this season.”

It may have been delayed but it was a classy message they didn’t have to post.

Well played.

With Madrid 90 minutes away from the Champions League final in Kiev, they’re still looking to get their hands on some silverware of their own to save their season.

If Los Blancos do win their third consecutive Champions League this campaign, they will be expecting a similarly classy tweet from Barcelona, no doubt.

First, though, Madrid will need to finish the job against Bayern Munich.

They went to the Allianz Arena last week and triumphed 2-1 thanks to goals from Marcelo and Marco Asensio.

If they can finish the job, they will be favourites to see off either Liverpool and Roma to win their 13th Champions League trophy.

Barca have probably already got the congratulatory tweet saved in their drafts…
