What some are calling the worst eye cut in mixed martial arts (MMA) history went down this past weekend on Saturday during the Cage Warriors 93 event in Gothenburg, Sweden.English welterweight Jack Mason suffered a first round TKO loss to opponent Hakon Foss after what was a beautiful combination. It was a knee from Foss, however, that damaged the Englishman's left eye that had fans talking. After the knee connected it left one of the biggest gashes you'll ever see on the human anatomy from a pure MMA fight.UFC veteran John Maguire shared the following video of Mason being treated for the cut after the bout. Fair warning, the video is not for the faint at heart, as the cut is very much gruesome. Check it out here:

The cut is so deep and will likely require surgery to repair. Mason took to Twitter to make light of the situation, joking that he needs to learn some knee defense:

While Mason may be able to make light of the gruesome cut, The Sun reports several comments from fans who were absolutely horrified by the battle scar. Here are a few of those comments:

"That is the worst thing I’ve ever seen in my life. It’s absolutely horrific."

"Is that ever going to heal properly? It’s only going to keep opening up in future surely?"

"This has to be the worst cut in the history of the sport. You can see pretty much everything."

"Most gnarly cut I've ever seen."

"Holy s***! This has to be one of the deepest cuts in MMA."

"That is some serious cut."

"I nearly vomited!"

It's no secret that the sport of MMA is one of the most unforgiving on the face of the earth, and Mason is a prime example of that.

With the loss to Foss, Mason's record now sits at 29 wins, 17 defeats, and a draw. While he'll likely be out for quite an extended period of time thanks to the cut, it should be interesting to see how the Englishman bounces back after what has become a high-profile loss.

What are your thoughts on the gash above Mason's eye? Do you think that he should hang up the gloves for good? And have you seen a worst cut in the history of MMA? Let us know your thoughts on the matter in the comments section below!
