For the first time in his career former UFC featherweight king Jose Aldo has suffered back-to-back losses in his mixed martial arts (MMA) career.

After beginning his career back in 2004, Aldo racked up a seven fight win streak before being defeated for the first time at a local promotion in Brazil a year later.

He'd bounce back with an incredible 18-fight win streak that included wins over some of the best fellow 145 pounders in the world and a UFC title reign.

Aldo was defeated again in December of 2015 when he was knocked out by Conor McGregor via first round knockout after just 13 seconds. It was the first los of his UFC career.

The following summer Aldo returned to the Octagon to win the interim featherweight title against Frankie Edgar. He would later be promoted to undisputed champion and was set to defend against Max Holloway.

In June of 2017 Holloway pulled off a miraculous third round knockout over Aldo in his own home country of Brazil to win the featherweight championship. They rematched later that year in December in Detroit.

Again, Holloway made relatively easy work of Aldo and finished him in the third round yet again. After back-to-back losses in his MMA career, Scarface now finds himself outside the title picture for the first time in a while.

He is currently set to face Jeremy Stephens on UFC on FOX 30 this summer. In a recent interview with Combate, Aldo revealed he nearly walked away from MMA after his second loss to Holloway (quotes via MMA Fighting):

”After the fight, I took some time for myself, to think and stay with my family,” Aldo told Combate.

“Two weeks later, I met with my coaches, sat down with everyone. I asked what they thought, if it was time to stop or not. We decided to move forward. The next day I was in the gym.

”I think I still have much wood to burn, full capacity to go there and fight for the title again,” Aldo said. “I still have four fights left in the contract.

"I want to do at least three this year. I want to get to the third fighting for the title, be champion again. Then, in the future, I think about retiring or not.”

What are your thoughts on Aldo contemplating retirement after losing to Holloway again? Do you think that Aldo's best time inside the cage is behind him? Or does he still have another title run left in him? Let us know your thoughts on the matter in the comments section below!
