Very few debut seasons compare to what Mohamed Salah has achieved at Liverpool since joining the club just nine months ago.

In the Premier League he's been unstoppable, scoring 31 goals and assisting a further nine in 34 appearances, while in the Champions League he's guided his teammates to the semi-finals.

A place in the final is also on the cards following last week's 5-2 win over AS Roma at Anfield, where Salah scored a stunning brace.

In terms of individual accolades, the Egyptian was recently named PFA Player of the Year and scooped the FWA Footballer of the Year award on Monday.

Winning the Champions League would be the crowning jewel of Salah's debut season at Liverpool and there are suggestions he could claim the Ballon d'Or at the end of 2018, too.

Not since 2007 has there been a winner of the Ballon d'Or that wasn't Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, but this could be the year that spell is broken.

Former Roma teammate and Liverpool target Alisson is one of many who believes Salah can achievable the unthinkable by beating Messi and Ronaldo to the top prize.

SALAH TIPPED FOR BALLON D'OR

"Messi is the best footballer I have ever played against, but now Momo is going to be feared like the Argentine," said the Roma goalkeeper.

"With the season he is having, he can be in contention for the Ballon d'Or, or at least be in the top three, even if the games are done after the Champions League and especially the World Cup.

"It is hard to stop him. He has a natural talent and now an incredible belief in himself but we can stop him playing as a team."

Not everyone is convinced that Salah can win the Ballon d'Or, though, with Egypt's Ahmed Elmohamady bringing his teammate crashing back down to earth with his recent comments.

Elmohamady has spoken the brutal truth by saying Salah has only done it for one season, whereas Messi and Ronaldo have been doing it for the past eight years.

According to the Aston Villa man, Salah has a "long way to go" before being put in the same bracket, which you have to admit is true:

"It's only one season. For the level of Ronaldo and Messi, he has to do it for seven or eight years. He still has a long way to go."

Winning the Ballon d'Or may be a step too far for Salah this year, but if Liverpool do end up Champions League winners, anything could happen.
