Nate Diaz is getting ready to make a high-profile UFC return, as he's sick of waiting around on the sidelines.

Diaz has been a longtime UFC veteran since making his promotional debut back in 2007. Over a decade later he has established himself as the ultimate rival of UFC mega-star Conor McGregor and is one of the biggest stars of the sport in his own right.

The Stockton brawler stepped into the spotlight after choking out Conor McGregor back in March of 2016 when he stepped in to meet the Irishman on late notice. It was the first defeat in McGregor's UFC career.

Diaz and McGregor rematched later that year in Las Vegas for a huge rematch, which remains one of the greatest fights of all time. McGregor was able to edge out the decision win via Majority decision.

Now that each man holds a win over the other, a trilogy bout is likely needed in the future. Diaz said after the fight that he'd wait to fight again until he is able to share the Octagon with McGregor, and he has stuck to that word - until now.

Not having fought in nearly two years, Diaz has gotten sick of waiting around on the sidelines waiting for something to happen. ESPN's Brett Okamoto reports that Diaz and the UFC are now negotiating for a return.

The target date is August 4’s UFC 227 event from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. Diaz wants to fight in his home state and also is interested in one of the names presented to him by the UFC.

MMA Fighting reports that the list of names offered to Diaz by the UFC do not include Conor McGregor or UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.

The more likely names that Diaz would fight are at 155 pounds; such as Eddie Alvarez, Dustin Poirier, or Kevin Lee.

There's also a slight possibility that Diaz could fight at welterweight. If that's the case perhaps Diaz will be offered a title shot against 170-pound king Tyron Woodley.

It should be interesting to see if the UFC and Diaz can come to an agreement soon, and who he'd be fighting next.
