Marouane Fellaini’s current contract expires in the summer but he still expects to be a Manchester United player next season. The Belgian has been offered a new deal which he is yet to sign, and he claims to be in a strong position as negotiations continue.“The entire staff is doing everything I can to stay. Now I am in a strong position, especially since [Jose] Mourinho has stated that he wants to keep me," Fellaini told Sport Magazine, per the Manchester Evening News.“Last year I went to the coach and I said that I wanted a new contract. I then had a second meeting, but I will not ask it ten times.“Afterwards I became important for the team... And a good player costs at least 50 million euros. The club knows that they went wrong there."Some might argue just how important Fellaini is to Man United, although there can be no doubting that nobody can fulfil the role of combative midfielder who poses a goalscoring threat quite like he can.And after hearing what Fellaini has to say about criticism he receives, Man United fans might be calling for the club to offer the 30-year-old a new multi-year contract.

Fellaini ruins Carragher

Fellaini is widely viewed as a rough footballer and this has led to criticism in the past from Jamie Carragher, who in 2017 said he hoped not to see the Belgium international in the Premier League again.

“He is a menace in the worst possible sense,” Carragher said. “He is not a Manchester United player in any shape or form… Personally I hope we don’t see his elbows in England again.”

Fellaini responded to those comments at the time by calling Carragher “the world champion of breaking legs” and he’s now doubled down on those claims with a quite brutal remark.

“How can someone like Jamie Carragher dare to question me?,” Fellaini told Sport/Foot, per Sport Witness. “The guy spat from his car on a girl after a Manchester-Liverpool match.

“You know, critics help you progress, you end up working more, you want to show them they are wrong.”

Oh, wow. Fellaini really went there. Man United fans on Twitter absolutely love Fellaini's comment.

He is, of course, referring to the incident after Man United’s 2-1 win over Liverpool in March, in which Carragher spat into the car of a Man United supporter and his daughter.

The former Liverpool centre-back was suspended by Sky Sports and hasn’t been vocal on social media since.

For Fellaini to bring it up as a way of knocking Carragher and his criticism is stunning.

And as you can tell by the reaction, it's gone down a treat among Man United supporters.
