The Bobby Lashley return rumours turned out to be true over WrestleMania weekend, as The Dominator appeared on Monday Night RAW one night after the Grandest Stage of Them All in New Orleans.

However, one thing that the world expected to happen inside of the Mercedes-Benz Superdome at WrestleMania 34 was the fact that Lashley would be announced as Braun Strowman’s mystery partner to take on Sheamus and Cesaro of The Bar for the RAW tag team championships.

RETURN

Instead, WWE decided to create a WrestleMania moment by having 10-year-old Nicholas capture the championships alongside The Monster Among Men, leaving Lashley to turn up on RAW the following night to target Elias.

Now, the WWE seems to be going back to their original plans; having Lashley team up with Strowman as the duo battle Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn this Sunday at the Backlash pay-per-view, with a heel turn heavily speculated to take place further down the line.

However, another huge match Lashley had been heavily linked with was a potential clash against Brock Lesnar with the Universal Championship - potentially - being on the line.

At the time, it was thought that Lashley could be the one that defeats The Beast as he too is a mixed martial artist and would be considered a legitimate fighter that can take down Lesnar. Although reports have suggested that a SummerSlam match, or a feud between the pair, has now been cancelled, Lashley wasn’t always under that impression.

LESNAR

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer revealed the news on his Twitter when a fan asked him about the planned feud between Lashley and Lesnar, where Meltzer revealed that when the former ECW Champion signed his WWE deal to return to the company, he was under the impression that feud was always going to be in the works.

He posted: “Lashley was under the impression when he was negotiated with that this was on the table, but Lesnar isn’t yet signed for that show.”

It’s the mystery surrounding the duration of Lesnar’s contract which is why nobody knows his status for SummerSlam. At the moment, nobody even knows when Lesnar is going to drop the Universal Championship next, with it being claimed that his next match will take place at the Money in the Bank event where he will be longest reigning world champion of the modern era.

While Lashley might be disappointed that the Lesnar plan might not work out, potentially going up against Strowman and putting him over in what could be a great feud wouldn’t be a bad substitute.
