Newcastle United defender Steven Taylor is reportedly disillusioned at St James Park and wants a move to Liverpool.

The Daily Express is reporting Taylor has become frustrated at the Geordie club’s lack of ambition, with Nottingham Forest’s James Perch their only summer signing so far.

Owner Mike Ashley is refusing to allow Chris Hughton the scope for big transfers spending, something the centre-back believes is needed.

London-born Taylor has been at the club for over a decade now and has been loyal to them after relegation to the Championship.

New Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson has reputedly offered £6 million for the 24-year-old and Taylor is considering his options.

A Newcastle source told the Express: “Steven is frustrated over the lack of ambition. Like all Newcastle fans, he just wants the club to become a force again.”

Taylor would also have liked more backing from the club after a fracas with striker Andy Carroll during training last season.
