Alberto Moreno is a Champions League finalist.

These are words that Liverpool fans never expected to utter but it’s now a reality following the Merseyside outfit’s 7-6 aggregate victory over AS Roma in the semi-finals.

Liverpool were beaten 4-2 at the Stadio Olimpico but that wasn’t enough to prevent them booking their place in the final on May 26.

Jurgen Klopp’s side will travel to the NSC Olimpiyskiy Stadium in Kiev as the underdogs, with Real Madrid currently the bookmaker’s favourites to win this year’s final.

However, you suspect Liverpool’s odds would drift even further if first-choice left-back Andy Robertson suffers an untimely injury before then.

The Scotland international has been excellent of late and has been a significant upgrade on the aforementioned Moreno, who has failed to convince since arriving at Anfield from Sevilla back in 2014.

Liverpool fans will be praying that the Spanish full-back isn’t required to come off the bench against Los Blancos later this month. It could be carnage.

What Moreno has said about Ronaldo

In the aftermath of Liverpool’s semi-final triumph over Roma, Moreno spoke to the Spanish press and is clearly already worried by the prospect of going head-to-head against Cristiano Ronaldo.

“Ahead of the final, if I could, I would erase Cristiano,” Moreno told Cadena COPE, per Football Espana.

In fairness, he’s summed up the feelings of every Liverpool fan there.

Ronaldo has netted 42 games in 41 games this season and scored in all 10 of Real Madrid’s Champions League matches until the two-legged semi-final against Bayern Munich.

Write off Ronaldo at your peril

One thing’s for certain: the former Manchester United star will be desperate, for multiple reasons, to score against Liverpool on May 26.

And only a fool would bet against him doing that.

“I have no words (for Liverpool reaching the final), Moreno added. “it is an incredible achievement for us and now we have a trophy in our sights.

“Klopp is a very sentimental guy and he definitely has a special connection with this competition.

“Mohamed Salah is an amazing player and has been so important for us this season, we hope he can produce one more special match.”
