Manchester City have rekindled their interest in Cologne’s £16.5 million-rated striker Lukas Podolski after he impressed at the World Cup, according to reports.
Podolski has impressed during Germany’s run to the semi-finals in South Africa and he will be trying to fire them into the final as they take on Spain tonight.
The Eastlands outfit wanted to sign him after he left Bayern Munich but the Polish-born forward-cum-winger decided to return to the team he started with, Cologne.
German newspaper the Hamburger Morgenpost are now claiming that Roberto Mancini wants to end his chase of another world-class frontman with the signing of Podolski.
However, the player’s agent, Kon Schramm, has insisted Podolski is happy with the Bundesliga club, saying: “There are inquiries for Lukas from England, Italy and Spain.
“Firstly, Lukas is now focussed exclusively on the World Cup. Secondly, he has a contract at Cologne until 2013.
“Thirdly, Poldi already said before the World Cup that he will remain with FC (Cologne),” Schramm added.
