The 49ers are leaving no stone unturned in their quest to keep their franchise stars healthy. According to Ben Volin of the Boston Globe the franchise's two highest prized assets, QB Jimmy Garoppolo and newly acquired corner Richard Sherman, are prohibited from participating in a series of potentially high-risk activities away from the football field.

“Skydiving, hang gliding, rock or mountain climbing, racing of any kind including as a driver or a passenger, motorcycling, use of any off-road or all-terrain vehicle, professional wrestling, boxing, firearms, scuba diving, jet skiing, surfing, bungee jumping, diving, and snow or water skiing.” Volin wrote.

Now, whilst it's understandable that team want to protect their top players in any which way possible, some of these prohibited activities are pretty harmless, whilst others are just downright bizarre.

Professional wrestling for one; these guys aren't Gronk, come on...

Surfing, diving and off-roading are all legitimately safe activities that are often undertaken on vacations so it seems pretty harsh to completely outlaw those too.

Bungee jumping and firearms though, completely on board with that!

The need to protect Garoppolo is surely greater than that of an ageing cornerback, but the niners aren't taking any chances here.

San Francisco owes the duo over $43 million between them in 2018, of which $37 million will go to Garoppolo, so the clauses are probably as much to do with wanting them on the field as they are related to not wanting to pay injured players huge amounts of money.

The former Patriots QB would still be guaranteed over $71 million if he were to get injured prior to the season, and with that kind of money on the line maybe being overly cautious isn't as much of a joy-kill as it sounds.

Sure, he may not be allowed to bungee jump, but there's plenty of other things one can do with $71 million that doesn't involve hurling oneself of the edge of tall buildings and the like.

The niners were unbeaten over Garoppolo's six starts in 2017, and they'll be desperate to kick on this season with a full 16 games with Jimmy G under center.

A playoff berth will certainly be in reach if he continues to play at an elite level, and Sherman's presence in the defensive backfield will help the defense contribute to that cause too.

The star pair may have to give up some fun in their downtime, but they'll both probably take it in their stride with winning a Super Bowl in mind.
