UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker is set to defend his title against Cuban powerhouse Yoel Romero in June at UFC 225 on pay-per-view (PPV).

Whittaker has been on an absolute tear since moving up to middleweight. The Australian is currently on a eight fight win streak and has downed names such as Uriah Hall, Rafael Natal, Derek Brunson, Ronaldo Souza, and Yoel Romero.

Back in July of last year Whittaker defeated Yoel Romero via unanimous decision to capture the interim 185-pound title. This would set up a match with then-undisputed middleweight champion Georges St-Pierre.

Unfortunately a health concern forced St-Pierre to vacate the title, thus promoting Whittaker to undisputed champion.

He was supposed to defend his title against Luke Rockhold earlier this year, however, he was hospitalized with a terrible illness that forced him to pull out. Instead, Romero stepped in to fight Rockhold instead.

An interim title would be placed on the line, however, Romero failed to make weight and was not eligible to win the title. The Cuban wound up winning the fight via third round vicious knockout.

Now Romero and Whittaker are set to fight each other again with the UFC's undisputed middleweight crown on the line, and things should be very interesting.

While Whittaker hasn't competed since defeating Romero, the Cuban comes fresh off a knockout win over a former middleweight champion.

With some newfound confidence, the 41-year-old could be a whole different animal for the Australian a second time around.

Despite this, Whittaker doesn't sound too worried about Romero. Making some recent comments before the upcoming fight,

Whittaker says he believes Romero's age is about to catch up to him when they share the Octagon together this coming June (quotes via MMA Mania):

“It’s hard, the dude just keep fighting, he’s tough,” Whittaker said. “I’m looking forward to having an exciting fight with Yoel, it’s gonna be another war.

"But I think this fight will be the fight that shows his age.”
