Rumours are circling that change is coming to Manchester United this summer.

The Red Devils could yet round off a successful season if they marry a second place finish in the Premier League with FA Cup glory, but Jose Mourinho will take little pride from finishing an almighty 16 points south of Manchester City.

As a result, it seems some degree of chopping and changing will be necessary to close the gap next season.

The extent to which that will concern heavy spending is unknown but it seems almost certain that Mourinho will look to clear-out the deadwood this summer.

Numerous reports have surfaced in recent weeks detailing the players, of which their could be as many as ten, that Mourinho wants to force an exit upon.

Possible summer clear-out at Man Utd

Some of the rumours have even suggested that players like Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba could bite the bullet.

It seems no player is safe from the verdict of Mourinho amidst inconsistent form.

Whether or not the Special One would go as far as axing his record signing is unknown, however, but other squad players look destined to face the chop.

U-turn on Darmian and Blind

And this week has seen one of the most concrete reports emerge surrounding Mourinho's plans for the transfer window.

Sky Sports reported on Thursday that their sources had obtained information that the club will be listening to offers from Daley Blind and Matteo Darmian this summer.

They also happen to be two players that emerge in almost every report of a United clear-out.

However, Mourinho gave a surprisingly positive answer on Thursday when the report was put to him.

While admitting that Darmian and Blind could leave if they so intend, he insisted he has absolutely no intention to sell them himself.

Mourinho explained: "They are part of my plans.

"No [I'm not going to let them go]. I think when a player wants to go, if that's the case and the right offers arrive in the club, we study that, because we always try to have the players happy.

"So if happiness means for them to leave, let's see what happens, but they are in my plans. I don't want to sell [them], I want to keep [them]."

Interesting indeed.

United fans wouldn't exactly have been saddened by either players' departure and it seems they'll have to take the initiative if they want to be anywhere but Old Trafford next season.

It seems either Mourinho has had a change of heart, he's concealing the club's real intentions or there is conflict of interests between club and manager.

Either way, the latest twist in Blind and Darmian's future is quite the U-turn.
