Steven Gerrard has officially been unveiled as the new manager of Rangers. After days of speculation, Rangers finally closed talks and made the announcement on Friday afternoon with Gerrard penning a four-year deal at Ibrox. In his official statement on the Rangers website, Gerrard stated: “I am honoured to become the next manager of Rangers. I have enormous respect for this football club, and its history and tradition.“I can’t wait to start this new journey at Rangers as we look to build on the many successes that this Club has achieved.”There can be no doubting that Gerrard has quite the task on his hands going forward.

Gerrard unveiled as Rangers boss

Rangers are a massive club for the Liverpool legend to take charge of in his first senior managerial role and the task of catching up with Celtic is particularly daunting.

Only time will tell how Gerrard fares in Glasgow and how his performances as Rangers coach will influence the narrative of his managerial career going forward.

After all, Liverpool fans are quietly hopeful that the 37-year-old will return one day.

Mignolet reacts brilliantly on Twitter

Nothing would please Kopites more than to see Gerrard stood in the Anfield dug-out and perhaps even holding the Premier League trophy aloft.

That very thought was clearly on the mind of Simon Mignolet, too, when he took to Twitter to react to the announcement.

It's fair to say he spoke for a lot of Liverpool fans with his post - check it out below:

Mignolet played alongside Gerrard for two seasons at Liverpool between 2013 and 2015.

Clearly, the Belgian hopes that the club legend will make an Anfield comeback in coming years and his wish of luck for his time with Rangers revolved around that very fact.

Nevertheless, catching the eye of Liverpool won't be easy in such a difficult role, even if the club itself are convinced they have the right man.

Dave King - Rangers' chairman - stated upon the announcement: Chairman Dave King added: “We are delighted to confirm today that Steven Gerrard will become the next manager of Rangers.

“From the very beginning, talks have been extremely positive and we believe that Steven is the right man to drive Rangers forward.

“He was extremely impressive throughout our negotiations and we are convinced that he has the necessary knowledge and temperament to lead the Club to the success we all desire.

“This a special day for our Club, our fans and for Steven.”

We can't wait to see how things pan out.
