In an unprecedented career move, Steven Gerrard has vacated his position as Liverpool U18s coach and been appointed Rangers manager. It's a risky decision that has divided fans and the media, yet the 37-year-old is confident he can handle the pressure he will undoubtedly come under at the Ibrox.Gerrard captained Liverpool to Champions League glory during his pomp as a player and believes he has the mentality to cope in Scotland."Pressure’s not a bad thing for me," said Gerrard at his unveiling. "I played under pressure, I have lived under pressure since I left school."In football, if you are working under pressure you are in a good place. Since I stopped playing football, I have missed that pressure of fighting for three points at the weekend."Being Rangers manager, I know there will be a lot of scrutiny and pressure but that's what I love about being involved in football."Bring it on. I don't mind being under intense pressure. I knew that before I decided to be Rangers manager and I’m up for the challenge."

GERRARD INCOMING

Gerrard certainly seems up to the challenge that awaits him and what's clear is he has the backing of his peers in football.

"Wish Steven Gerrard all the very best with Rangers," penned Gary Lineker on Twitter. "If he's even half as good a manager as he was a player, he'll be triumphant.

"Been great working with him on the telly. Smart, knowledgeable and driven."

And Michael Owen wrote: "Great opportunity for Stevie G to start his managerial career at Rangers. If he's half as good a manager as he was a player then he’ll be a huge success."

One question that now needs answering is who will succeed Gerrard as Liverpool U18s coach, with a number of candidates in the running.

Kopites previously wanted Xabi Alonso to take over, but now they're getting excited about the thought of John Arne Riise returning to Merseyside.

In reaction to Gerrard becoming Rangers manager, Riise has tweeted saying that he's "expecting a call" from his old club about the vacant role.

What a dream appointment that would be. Liverpool fans sure want it to happen judging by the below reaction.
