Steven Gerrard has taken his first step into senior management and everyone is having their say. Some say it’s a fantastic move for both Gerrard and Rangers as they attempt to wrestle back power from Celtic. However, some believe that the Rangers job is a poisoned chalice and they’re a million miles away from competing with their Old Firm rivals.Either way, everyone that isn't associated with Celtic is wishing Gerrard all the very best in his new role. And that includes fellow scouser Joey Barton.Barton played eight times for Rangers during the 2016/17 campaign and still clearly has a lot of feelings for the club. And he sent a rather lovely message to Gerrard after he was announced as the new boss for the Ibrox club.

THE TWO TWEETS JOEY BARTON SENT

Barton tweeted: “Good luck to Steven Gerrard and his staff. If he’s half as good as a coach that he was as a player, then it’s glory days again for @RangersFC.”

Ah, how lovely.

Barton then followed that up with a tweet that showed just how much he enjoyed his time at Rangers.

“It’s some place if you can get it right. It won’t be easy but an incredible club with an incredible fan base. Best of luck to all @RangersFC.”

At least Gerrard will have the backing of Barton next season.

Of course, Barton himself has taken his first into management.

But instead of going straight in at a big job, Barton will become manager at League One Fleetwood Town in the summer when his ban from football ends.

There’s probably slightly less pressure on Barton than there will be on Gerrard next season but both former midfielders will be looking to kickstart their managerial careers successfully.
