Plymouth striker Ashley Barnes is set to join Brighton for an undisclosed fee.

The 20-year-old has agreed a two-year deal with Albion, subject to passing a medical. Barnes made a huge impact at the Withdean last season after joining the club on loan in March scoring four goals in eight appearances.

"We are delighted that Ashley is joining us. We have been trying to finalise the deal for some time and it is great news that it has now been agreed," Brighton boss Gus Poyet told the club's official website.

"Ashley quickly adapted to our style of football last season. He is strong and can score goals and he is the type of character we are looking for in a player. He will be a great addition to the squad."
