As the Aviva Premiership reaches its climax and Exeter Chiefs eye their second successive title, former England international and 2003 World Cup winner Will Greenwood has announced his picks for the Team of the Season.

As should be expected, the majority of players have been plucked from the four clubs vying for a place in May’s final fixture, with only Sale Sharks and Worcester Warriors being represented outside of the semi-final teams.

Exeter Chiefs boast three players in Greenwood’s Team of the Year, as do Wasps, Newcastle Falcons, and Sale Sharks, while Saracens have two players and Worcester Warriors the one.

A thrilling season has seen Saracens fly-half Owen Farrell emerge as the leading points scorer thus far with 170 points in total, while Worcester winger Josh Adams and Newcastle centre Vereniki Genova share the honour of top try scorers with 13 each so far.

The stand-out name on Greenwood’s list, however, is surely Danny Cipriani, who has enjoyed a steller season for Wasps, and who, despite his tumultuous relationship with his national team in the past, must surely be in line for an imminent call up to the England team.

An integral part of Wasp’s talented back-line, the often maligned Cipriani, has simply been unplayable at times, destroying teams with the help of his less celebrated colleagues at the back.

Greenwood’s list is as follows:

1. Ross Harrison – Sale Sharks
2. Kyle Cooper – Newcastle Falcons
3. Juan Figallo – Saracens
4. Calum Green – Newcastle Falcons
