it’s been a roller-coaster season for Liverpool fans and players alike.

After a largely indifferent first half, which included embarrassing defeats at Manchester City and Tottenham, the talismanic Philippe Coutinho moved to pastures new in the January window, leaving what was thought to be a massive hole in Jurgen Klopp’s midfield.

However, since that seemingly non-sensical move, The Reds have done nothing but improve.

Their blistering frontline, consisiting of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, and the Egyptian King Mohamed Salah, have been described as the most potent attacking triumvirate on the continent and continue to prove it.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain filled the Coutinho shaped void brilliantly as he grew from strength to strength before a devastating knee injury ended his season prematurely.

James Milner and Jordan Henderson have been immense in the middle of the park, Andrew Robertson has been nothing short of a revelation and record signing Virgil Van Dijk has brought a desperately needed measure of calm to the fragile backline.

Now, unbelievably, Klopp’s side are just three weeks away from the biggest game of their lives, after booking their place in the Champions League final in Kiev following a frenetic semi-final win over Roma.

Holders Real Madrid now stand between the Reds and a sixth European triumph, but Mo Salah and co. will be quietly confident of causing an upset on May 26th in Ukraine.

After a scintillating run to club football’s showpiece event, Liverpool are now being tipped to be Manchester City’s main challengers for the Premier League title next season.

With Naby Keita joining in the summer, Klopp will certainly be eyeing the holy grail that has painfully eluded Liverpool for so many years.

Phil Thompson identifies the player Liverpool need to change

Sky Sports pundit Phil Thompson has named the one change that Liverpool need to make if they hope to challenge for top honours next season.

Thompson believes that, despite an improvement in form in the latter stages of the season, Loris Karius simply isn’t the goalkeeper to carry the Anfield side to domestic glory.

“He will probably [continue as number one next season]. Do I think that he should be changed? Probably.” said Thompson

The goalkeeping situation at Anfield has long been a contemptuous issue as links to Roma’s Alisson persist.

“But you’re asking me the question and I think most Liverpool fans will look at it and probably think we do need a new goalkeeper.”

Karius’ improvement has been remarkable, but he still looks a little gittery.

Against the likes of Christiano Ronaldo and Toni Kroos, the German stopper is going to have to be at his absolute best.

One thing is for sure, he will be desperate to hold the might of Madrid at bay, and prove the likes of Thompson wrong.
