Nate Diaz hasn't fought in the UFC since his Majority Decision loss to Conor McGregor back at UFC 202 in August of 2016.

Diaz became the first man in UFC history to defeat McGregor back in March of 2016 when he stepped in for an injured Rafael dos Anjos. With just days notice, Diaz stepped into the cage against The Notorious One and submitted him via rear-naked choke in the second round.

Although Diaz was already one of the more notable names in mixed martial arts (MMA), this victory propelled him into a completely different tier of superstardom.

Following his victory over the Irishman the pair agreed to rematch several months later at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

McGregor and Diaz put on a five round back-and-forth classic that resulted in the then-UFC featherweight champion earning the Majority Decision win. After the fight talk of a trilogy fight came out the mouths of both fighters, but nothing has been finalized since.

Instead, McGregor captured the lightweight title and began his boxing career with a defeat to Floyd Mayweather.

With legal troubles of his own now looming, he has been stripped of his featherweight and lightweight belts and his fighting future remains unclear.

As for Diaz, he hasn't fought since losing to McGregor and is looking to get back into the Octagon soon. The UFC and Diaz are reportedly negotiating a deal to have the Stockton native return in the coming months.

In regards to his opponent, there are currently no reports as to who that would be. One standout, however, could be emerging lightweight contender Kevin Lee.

Lee has impressed greatly with big wins over the likes of Michael Chiesa and Edson Barboza, as well as an unsuccessful but still impressive showing against former interim 155-pound champion Tony Ferguson.

If Lee is indeed the man the UFC is eying to fight Diaz he seems to be very game. During a recent interview with MMA Tonight, Lee admitted that he's shifting all his focus towards a fight with Diaz (quotes via MMA Junkie):

“I’m turning my focus to Nate,” Lee told SiriusXM’s “MMA Tonight” with hosts Miesha Tate and Sean O’Connell.

“I think that Nate fight is out there to be had. He’s already run away from me once. Now they’ve got Aug. 4 coming up that he’s looking to get on.

“I’m going to do a little bit of traveling, see the world a bit myself and kind of expand some more of that life to experience, which is just going to make me a better fighter,” Lee said.

“Coming back? I don’t know. I think the Khabib fight is the right one to make, but the Nate one is out there to be had.

"I know Dustin and Alvarez, they’re getting in it again, as they rightfully should. But we’ll how this thing shakes out. I’m going to turn my focus onto Nate.”
