Tony Bellew produced a brilliant display to stop David Haye in the fifth round of their heavyweight rematch in London on Saturday night.Haye, 37, was knocked down twice early in the fight and his career at the top level appears to be over following a second defeat to Bellew in 14 months.The former world heavyweight champion chose not to retire straight after the fight - but he won't enjoy watching the fight back."I don’t know [if I will retire], it didn’t feel that great in there tonight, I’ll have to review the tape,” Haye said.Bellew praised his competitor after the fight: “David Haye is an amazing fighter, he just got caught in a slugfest.""He’s a great fighter, he has got crazy power but speed and power always decreases. He is a legend, a credit to the sport and I’m just happy I’ve got the win against the odds.“It’s been a great journey. Who’s next? I don’t know. I am a walking Super Series. Every fight I’m in is a Super Series. I need that mega star.”
Audley Harrison on Haye
The 46-year-old former British heavyweight retired from boxing in 2013, after being knocked out by Deontay Wilder within 70 seconds in his final fight.
Harrison shared a message for Haye on Twitter straight after the fight.
"Congratulations to @TonyBellew - excellent performance," Harrison tweeted. "Father Time comes to us all, but @mrdavidhaye can be proud that he came back to see what he had left - not many will EVER achieve what he did, so he can leave (if he chooses) PROUD #HayeBellew2."
Harrison is absolutely spot on. The 37-year-old has enjoyed a legendary career but his fight with Bellew certainly showed that age has caught up with him.
Haye had previously claimed that he would retire if he failed to beat the Liverpudlian at the O2 Arena.
“[It’s] a cold hard fact. You know, even if I win this fight, but I don't look spectacular, I will retire,” Haye told Sky Sports in April.
“I'm 37 years of age now, pushing 38, [and] if I don't win this fight in spectacular form, it will be my last fight, for sure.
“If I lose the fight, 100 per cent, that's me done.”
