It's safe to say Ben Roethlisberger is not a fan of the Steelers' third-round draft pick Mason Rudolph. The two-time Super Bowl champion voiced his displeasure at the former Oklahoma State QB's selection last week, saying that the Rudolph era 'won't be for a while' and he doubled down on his stance in a radio interview, Friday. Speaking on KDKA's Cook and Poni in Pittsburgh was highly sceptical of the choice to spend a third-round pick on another future QB, rather than getting a player who could help the team 'win now'.

Big Ben was expecting to move forward through 2018 with Landry Jones as his backup and last year's fourth round selection Josh Dobbs as the developmental quarterback.

"So, I was surprised when they took a quarterback," Roethlisberger said on that situation, "because I thought that maybe in the third round, you can get some really good football players that can help this team now. And nothing against Mason, I think he's a great football player ... I just don't know how backing up or being the third guy, who knows where he's going to fall on the depth chart, but helps us win now."

It's a fairly scathing assessment of the pick, but maybe he's just trying to stick up for his buddies in the QB room.

"Those two guys are who I feel the worst for," he continued. "I'll be honest, I wasn't worried about [Rudolph] coming and taking my job. I feel confident that I can go out and beat whoever I need to beat out for my job. ... I do feel bad for those guys.

"I don't know what's going to happen. I assume Landry's still the two, I don't really know. And Josh, same thing. Last year you take him in the fourth round, so does that mean the Steelers screwed up in that pick? Like do they think that he wasn't the one that they thought, or has he not developed the way they thought? Why else would you take a quarterback in the third round the next year?"

Rudolph's addition likely puts Dobbs' roster spot in jeopardy, but considering how raw the former Tennessee standout looked in preseason action in 2017 the rookie passer is probably a better option going forward.

The pick was clearly made with value in mind, and though Roethlisberger says he wants to play on for the next few seasons and more, his injury prone body might have the last say on that front.

Regardless, after these pretty brutal comments it's going to be a pretty awkward QB room in Pittsburgh.
