Clive Woodward OBE has never shied away from voicing his opinions regarding matters related to rugby, be it in the domestic circuit or in the international arena.

Near the end of a long season in the Aviva Premiership, on the threshold of the play-offs, a fair assessment can be made who has been the best players among the elite squads in England.

The National team head coach Eddie Jones is set to name the final squad for the summer tour of South Africa on Thursday, and Woodward has an advice for him in terms of selection.

The World Cup-winning coach is of the opinion that Jones must include London Wasps fly-half Danny Cipriani before considering any other options as the Londoner has been the best in his position throughout the current campaign.

He believes it would be an utter disgrace if Cipriani is overlooked for selection in the national team in the upcoming series.

The 62-year-old said: “Danny Cipriani has been the best No 10 in the Premiership this season and it would be an utter disgrace — in fact a tragedy — if he doesn't tour South Africa with England this summer.

“On current form, he is clearly the starting Test 10 with Saracens' Owen Farrell at No 12. It would be an utter disgrace — in fact a tragedy — if he doesn't tour South Africa this summer.”

The 30-year-old Englishman has been a pivotal part of the Wasps this term, coming up with outstanding performances on a consistent basis.

Both outings against Harlequins, alongside Gloucester Rugby have been some of the impressive displays from him in the season, and Woodward insists Cipriani is the ideal candidate to orchestrate the attack as well as provide balance to the defence.

It remains to be seen if Jones indeed considers Woodward's advice, as the Aussie coach aims to find the perfect combination for England national team ahead of the World Cup next year in Japan.
