What Pedro did when he came on for Cesc Fabregas vs Liverpool

Chelsea had to beat Liverpool to keep alive their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League – and that’s exactly what they did.

Olivier Giroud’s first-half header meant Chelsea moved to within three points of their opponents, with a game in hand at home against Huddersfield on Wednesday.

A win against the Terriers and they will be level on points with Jurgen Klopp’s side going into the final day.

The Blues could well be playing Champions League football next season after all.

While Liverpool dominated possession during the clash at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea held firm to prevent Liverpool’s free-scoring side from, well, scoring.

In fact, it was the first time under Klopp that Liverpool have failed to score in successive Premier League matches.

Antonio Conte’s side saw out the game well, limited Liverpool to half-chances to equalise as the clock ticked away.

And Conte did his best to wind down the clock towards the end of the match by making three substitutions in the final four minutes.

The final change came in the 93rd-minute when Pedro replaced Cesc Fabregas.

Pedro was given a 90-second appearance and he really wanted to make the most of it.

A video is being shared of the former Barcelona player looking extremely keen to get onto the pitch as Fabregas trotted off.

And as soon as his teammate crossed the white line, Pedro sprinted as fast as he could to take up his position.

It was rather bizarre, but rather brilliant.

Conte would have enjoyed it, that’s for sure.

And Klopp, who can be seen in the background of the video, must have been wishing he had Pedro in his ‘Gegenpressing’ side…
