Stoke City’s ten-year stay in the Premier League is over.Paul Lambert’s side lost 2-1 to Crystal Palace on Saturday, relegating them to the Championship. While the club will be in the Championship, plenty of their players will be looking to jump ship this summer. There’s simply no way the likes of Xherdan Shiqiri or Jack Butland will be playing second-tier football next season. While no clubs appear to have registered their interest in Shaqiri just yet, there are plenty of rumours flying around about Butland’s future. The England international has been linked with a move to Liverpool in the summer to replace Loris Karius.Butland has potentially a very big summer coming up with the prospect of being England’s number one during the World Cup and a career-defining move.

BUTLAND HAS BEEN LINKED TO LIVERPOOL

However, while Butland might relish the chance to move to Anfield, it seems Liverpool fans aren’t too keen.

Karius has improved as the season has gone on and, if Liverpool are to sign a goalkeeper, they’re hoping for a world-class signing in the form of either Jan Oblak or Roma’s Alisson.

So when a report in The Times stated that Wolves is Butland’s “most likely destination,” Liverpool fans were delighted.

They were celebrating on social media after discovering they’re now not the front-runners to sign Butland.

One thing is for sure, Butland is almost certain to leave Stoke in the summer.

And he appeared to make sure that happens with some rather honest comments after his side’s relegation.

Butland dubbed the recent investments as “farcical” in a rant that sounded like a player that has simply had enough of life at the Bet365 stadium.

“The whole recruitment process needs looking at to be honest,” he said. “We’ve gone into a game here — and over the past few months — with half the squad dotted around the world, not even involved,” Butland said.

“Some are out on loan. But then there have been signings who aren’t even part of the squad for all kinds of reasons, whether it be discipline, whether it be lack of performance.

"So you’ve got to look at that— the type of characters.

"Too many of the recent investments have been completely unused and that’s unacceptable.

"That’s got to be looked at because it’s been farcical really.”
