Amir Khan has come out and said that he is willing to fight in the same card as Kell Brook if it means it will get him closer to a clash with his long-term rival.

Khan was back in the ring last month after a two-year layoff and surpassed everyone’s expectations by knocking out Phil Lo Greco in just 39 seconds in the first round.

“King” Khan impressed in his first fight for two years and has put his name back among the boxing headlines once again.

After signing a three-match contract with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom stable earlier in the year, Khan doesn't want to waste anytime in returning to action.

"I want to fight again in September, and I want to come back with a big bang again," Khan told Sky Sports.

"I've had my time off. I was out of the ring for two years, and I've come back the way that everyone wanted to see me come back. It's time for me to get another fight in, and then let's see where this goes."

Many believe that Khan’s signing with Matchroom was a move designed to increase his chances of fighting Brook.

When asked the possibility of appearing on the same card as Brook, Khan responded by saying: "That can happen. Why not? I'm the bigger name, and I sell more than what Kell would do. I think I'm No 1 anyway, so let's see.

"Is that what Eddie [Hearn] wants? If Eddie wants that, I don't mind being on the same bill as him. Him being on the undercard, that's fine, or we could both be two chief support fights.”

The former unified light-welterweight world champion also declared that he wants to fight a big name in September, perhaps in preparation for Kell Brook.

"I want a bigger step-up. It's hard to say name-wise who I could face. Broner. I would like to fight Broner next if I could.

"Broner would be good, [Jessie] Vargas would be good. I would school him. He's not at my level. I would destroy him.”

He added that he would prefer to fight in the UK again after having not fought in British soil for five years before his last fight.

"Broner is a big name, to bring him to the UK would be massive. I'm so glad to be back on British soil.

"That's what maybe gave me that extra push as well. Seeing that you've got your home crowd. I'm back home now and I want to stay here. My next fight here as well."

Meanwhile, Khan’s promoter, Eddie Hearn couldn't be more excited about his charge’s latest performance. He was also optimistic about the chances of a Khan-Brook fight being made.

“What a great performance from Amir Khan; he's back," Hearn said. "People ask me, 'Has he still got the speed?' I think he might be quicker!

"I would love the Brook-Khan fight, we'll have to see. Kell Brook will be back in the ring in July. He's chasing the 154(lb) world champions but that fight will always be a big fight.

"I would hate for one day these boys to get old and one day look back and kick themselves for not making this fight. The British public want to see Khan against Brook and we should deliver what the British public want.

"Kell Brook doesn't like Amir Khan. Amir Khan doesn't like Kell Brook. This fight should have happened 12 months ago, two years ago. We've still got time. Let's not regret it."
