It’s a very good time to be a Liverpool supporter.

The Reds are a joy to watch under Jurgen Klopp and they have a Champions League final to look forward to at the end of May.

Regardless of how the match against Real Madrid goes, Liverpool are in a position where they can attract the top names in football.

According to RMC Sport, the club have agreed a deal to sign Nabil Fekir from Lyon in a deal worth €70 million (£61.7m).

Fekir, 24, has scored 22 goals in all competitions for Lyon this season, his goals leaving the Ligue 1 club on the verge of Champions League qualification.

It’s therefore easy to see why Liverpool are prepared to break the bank to sign the Frenchman.

But what type of player will Liverpool be getting? The Liverpool Echo decided to ask French journalist Jacques Santucci, who works for broadcaster SFR Sport, to find out. The response is hugely promising.

The report on Fekir

“He is one of the best French players,” Santucci said. “He has the ability to break down deep defences like Philippe Coutinho did.

“He can make the difference on his own. That's been a weakness for Liverpool against bus parking teams. He is even more of a dribbler than Coutinho.”

Santucci went on to describe Fekir’s best position as “a second striker or as a No. 10."

The journalist continued: “He is very dangerous in the final third, very skilful and he has a very good left foot. He is the second most fouled player in Ligue 1 after Neymar and the fifth best dribbler.

“His weakness could be his knee but he hasn't had any problems with that this season, bar a small issue earlier in the campaign but everything is fine now.

“His intensity levels can sometimes drop off which would be a problem under Klopp.”

Oh where Fekir would fit in a side that already contains a fixed attacking three in Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane, Santucci opined: “That’s the most difficult question.

“We've never seen him in the No. 8 role where Coutinho played but I think he could play there.

“He would be great in the front three but I can’t see him taking Salah, Mane or Firmino’s place. He would be a great option to have.”

Ultimately, Santucci believes that Klopp could make it work as a result of the player’s talent.

“He wouldn’t be a natural fit but Klopp can change that. Fekir has the talent. He can run, pass and score. I’m sure it would work out,” he added.
