Life can be very cruel sometimes - just ask Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
The 24-year-old has come on leaps and bounds since joining Liverpool from Arsenal last summer and become an important member of Jurgen Klopp's squad.
His pace, composure and vision is perfectly suited to the Reds' heavy-metal style of play and has seen him become an instant success at Anfield.
But the Ox's season was sadly cut short a few weeks ago by a knee ligament injury against AS Roma in the Champions league semi-finals.
It means he will not only miss the final against Real Madrid, but also this summer's World Cup with England in Russia - both of which huge occasions.
"Absolutely devastated to have picked up this injury at such a crucial time in the season," Oxlade-Chamberlain penned on Instagram upon learning the extent of his injury.
"Gutted I won't be able to play any further part now in our Champions League run for Liverpool, and also the World Cup with England.

"But now it's all about supporting the boys and getting behind them. I know we have what it takes to do something special in this tournament.
"I'm going to give everything I have to make sure I'm back as quickly as possible. Thank you for all your kind words, messages and support. I'll see you soon."
Eloquently put. Oxlade-Chamberlain has been a hit at Liverpool not just because of his impressive performances but also his maturity and articulation in post-match interviews.
During an interview alongside Philippe Coutinho back in December, for example, the Ox handled questions about the Brazilian's future supremely well and pretty much saved his ex-teammate.
It comes as no surprise, then, that the BBC and ITV are trying to land the Englishman in a punditry role for the World Cup.
That's according to the Daily Mail, who claim both broadcasters are fighting to sign up Oxlade-Chamberlain because of his well-spokenness and inside knowledge of the England camp.
And it's a great idea in truth. Oxlade-Chamberlain is well liked amongst football fans, has shown confidence in front of the cameras and could provide some very interesting insight.
ITV are said to be leading the race for the 24-year-old's services, but regardless of who wins it will be good to see him play some kind of role in Russia.
