Sanches' awkward tweet

Carlos Carvalhal came in and things looked promising when Swansea won five out of nine matches in the winter. But they haven’t won since March and are currently on a four-game losing streak.

Renato Sanches’ season really does sum up Swansea’s fortunes.

It looked like a great piece of business when Swansea signed the Portuguese midfielder on loan from Bayern Munich last summer but he’s been a disaster, making just 12 appearances in the league.

Swansea fans can’t wait to see the back of him but he’s made sure to annoy them one last time before returning to Bayern.

Just a day after Swansea's 1-0 defeat to Southampton, and hours before their relegation was seemingly confirmed with Huddersfield’s draw, Sanches announced on Twitter that his own personal emojis will soon be released.

He really seems cut up about failing to help Swansea in any way, shape or form over recent months.

It pretty much sums up modern football, where players are brands as much as they are footballers.

Sanches’ tweet has drawn quite the reaction from football fans on Twitter.

The 20-year-old arrived at the Liberty Stadium with a scintillating reputation after starring for Portugal at Euro 2016 and winning the Golden Boy award in the same year.

But a hamstring injury forced him to spend months on the sidelines and Carvalhal doesn’t expect to see Sanches playing for his country at the World Cup.

"I don't think he has any chance of going to the World Cup,” the Swansea boss said last month.

"I told him to put expectations down, they have a lot of very good players - he is part of group - but has missed lot of games."

An almighty shame. Still, at least Sanches has his emojis.
