Time is ticking for Arsenal to announce the successor to Arsene Wenger.

The club have reiterated their intentions to resolve the issue before the World Cup kicks off in Russia and that gives the Arsenal hierarchy just 32 days to make their decision.

Ivan Gazidis revealed in the aftermath of Wenger's departure announcement: "We are going to take what Arsene has given us and continue the values he has instilled. It's going to be a condensed summer with the World Cup in the middle of it. Having clarity sooner is better.

"We want someone who plays progressive, exciting football that gets people interested and excited in games we play.

"Another significant piece is how the candidate represents the club and it must be someone who gives youth a chance."

Arsenal running out of time to replace Wenger

It seems Arsenal have no shortage of names on their list, too, with anyone from Massimiliano Allegri to Zeljko Buvac being linked with the job over recent weeks.

With time quickly escaping the Gunners, though, just who are they starting to settle upon?

Well, Monday saw BBC Sport rule out Brendan Rodgers, Rui Faria, Joachim Low, Thomas Tuchel and Diego Simeone.

Three names on final short-list revealed

And reports have since emerged that former Barcelona boss Luis Enrique - despite being favoured by Raul Sanllehi - has priced himself out of the job with demands of £15 million-a-year.

As a result, it has now been revealed that Arsenal have finalised a five-man list before their meeting with Stan Kroenke that will ultimately settle the affair.

According to the Telegraph, although not every name on the list is known, Patrick Vieira, Mikel Arteta and Allegri have all made the final cut.

With the likes of Enrique and Simeone out of the question, exactly who the remaining two candidates are isn't clear but Leonard Jardim is rumoured to be one of them.

It is believed that Arsenal are torn over selecting an established, experienced manager or younger candidate more reminiscent of a head coach.

The Daily Mail reports that Arsenal are seriously considering a young candidate as part of their five-man list with Hoffenheim’s Julian Nagelsmann looking the obvious choice.

Kroenke has a history of hiring younger managers for his sports teams, too, selecting Sean McVay as head coach of his Los Angeles Rams NFL team at just the age of 30.

McVay only had college football experience at the time of his appointment and went onto be crowned the 'Coach of the Year' in 2017.

As a result, don't be surprised if the Gunners favour youth this summer with the final five selected.
