UFC 226 is set to go down on pay-per-view (PPV) this summer on July 7, 2018 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event is set to have two huge headliners in UFC title bouts.

The main event is set to see UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier challenge for the heavyweight crown against Stipe Miocic. If Cormier wins he'd become the second-ever dual-weight champion in UFC history behind Conor McGregor.

In the co-main event fan-favorite and UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway will defend his title against rising star Brian Ortega.

Holloway has won 12-straight fights since losing his last bout to Conor McGregor back in 2013. He comes off back-to-back knockout wins over the greatest featherweight of all time, Jose Aldo.

The Blessed One has made a ton of noise in his recent Octagon outings, solidifying himself as one of the most dangerous fighters in mixed martial arts (MMA) today. Opposite him this summer will be a man who has proven to be just as dangerous.

Ortega is undefeated in his MMA career and comes off a massive win over Frankie Edgar. In fact, Ortega became the first man in MMA history to have ever finished Edgar in MMA competition.

Although he is known for his sick jiu-jitsu skills, having won seven of his 14 career wins via submission, Ortega actually beat Edgar by way of knockout.

He earned himself a shot at Holloway's title, and fight fans are extremely intrigued to see how this one plays out.

Of course, fans aren't holding their breath for big fights nowadays given that some massive fights have been called off due to injury in recent memory. UFC President Dana White has learned to have a back-up plan in case of these instances.

In a recent interview with UFC Unfiltered White revealed that if something were to happen to either Holloway or Ortega - Edgar would likely step in to fill the void (quotes via MMA Mania):

“If you look at Frankie Edgar right now, the guy’s ranked number three in the world,” White said via Bloody Elbow. “He’s still right in there, and you know how sh-t happens in this business, man.

“Ortega’s next, but imagine if anything happens to those guys and Frankie stays in shape, he could absolutely dive in there for a title shot. You never know what’s gonna happen.”

What are your thoughts on White revealing that Edgar could step in for either Ortega or Holloway at UFC 226? Do you think this fight is going to fall through? And who are you picking in the upcoming featherweight title fight? Let us know your thoughts on the matter in the comments section below!
