The last time we watched Wladimir Klitschko fight in the boxing ring was for his defeat against Anthony Joshua in April last year.

Despite getting the knockdown on Joshua early in that fight, it was the young Brit who came out on top when the referee called a stop to the fight.

Since then, Klitschko decided to hang up the gloves and go into retirement, but the Ukrainian could lace-up his gloves again as he talks of potentially returning to the ring.

"Well, I was right with that quote! You never say never. Things can change," Klitschko told 112.international in an interview this week.

The now retired 42-year-old has been on a promotional tour for a new documentary on the sport, but has spoken about the possibility of making a return to the ring in an exhibition capacity.

"People often switch careers during their lifetimes. Look at Arnold Schwarzenegger: He was an athlete, then an actor, then a politician, then a businessman, and now he's involved in taking care of the planet.

"Maybe if I feel the time is right to help a certain charity, I'll get back in the ring.

"I had great times in the 27 years I spent in the sport. I learned a lot and I travelled a lot, which was my goal when I first started boxing.

"I have achieved what I never dreamed of; I've done and experienced things that I had never even thought about.

"I've learned that when some doors close, others open. It's all life experience and sport really is amazing.

"I would quote Nelson Mandela: "Sport has the power to change the world because it's a global thing," he added.

Following his fight with Joshua back in April last year, Klitschko was offered the chance of a rematch with the Brit, but rejected the offer.

In his documentary, he met with the current triple-belt holder, who asked why he rejected the rematch offer.

Klitschko said: "For 27 years I've been doing it and then when you know you gotta pull the plug that's it, it’s done.

“So I was saying to myself ‘Wlad c’mon man you gotta make a decision’, because one day I'd wake up and say yes I'm gonna go for it, then second day I'd wake up and say wait a second it's about AJ, it's about rematch.

"So you have to be honest with yourself what is your gut feeling saying coz [sic] as soon as your brain turns on, you’re gone.”

So, it's clear that Klitschko would consider returning to the ring, but one thing we can be sure of, is that it won't be a rematch against Joshua.
