The 2010 World Cup was a quite awful tournament for England. The Three Lions got off to a dream start in their opening group game against USA as Steven Gerrard scored after four minutes, but it only went downhill from there.Rob Green would let in an absolute howler later on as the game ended all square, before England narrowly made it out of Group C after defeating Slovenia 1-0 in their final Group C clash.Fabio Capello's side then played Germany in the last 16 of the competition, in a game that many England fans, particularly Frank Lampard, will never forget.Let's hope this year's edition in Russia goes better for Gareth Southgate and his squad.

PLAYERS SUFFERED FROM BOREDOM

But proceedings were also tough off the pitch for England.

Capello's strict regime meant players were left extremely bored between games, with both John Terry and Wayne Rooney just two players that made those complaints.

Jermaine Defoe has now added to that notion, claiming that he and Rooney were so bored one night that they watched the Liverpudlian's whole wedding on DVD.

"When we were in South Africa, I remember one night I was bored, so me and Wayne Rooney sat in his room and watched his whole wedding on DVD," Defoe explained.

"It was nice to spend quality time with a teammate. Wayne had something like a flash mob -- the waiters were singing, dancing -- if I can remember.

"It was good because he was my strike-partner. Yeah, you do get bored but all the teams get bored."

Needless to say, he must have been extremely bored.

PETER CROUCH TWEETS

Peter Crouch has established himself as one of the best footballer accounts on Twitter, and he posted another quality tweet in reaction to Defoe's comments.

Crouch was also present at the 2010 World Cup, where he made two appearances from the substitutes bench, and he posted a typical reply.

He wrote: "Fuming I never got an invite. I was watching [James] Milner's birthday celebrations. 😒"

Quality stuff.

Crouch is quite simply the gift that just keeps on giving.

His reply went down very well with users on Twitter.
