Professional wrestling lost out on one of its most talented female competitors several months ago, when former WWE Divas Champion Paige suffered an injury that ended her career.
Paige was dealing with a string of neck injuries for the past several years that kept her out-of-action for quite some time.
This past November she finally made her return to in-ring competition by debuting her Absolution faction with Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville.
The trio ran rampant on RAW for several weeks before Paige suffered a nasty back injury at a live event the following January.
After eating a massive double kick to the back from Sasha Banks in a multi-man tag match, Paige was unable to get back to her feet and finish the match, and the bout was called off as a result before she was helped to the back.
Soon after news broke that WWE would not ever be clearing Paige to compete as an in-ring competitor again. WWE held tight on announcing the news officially and simply kept Paige out of physical altercations.
Finally, on an episode of RAW several weeks ago, Paige got the opportunity to get on the microphone and announce that her in-ring career has ended due to her injuries.
An emotional Paige discussed her thanks to WWE and its fans for her memories throughout the years.
It was then announced that Paige was the new General Manager of SmackDown Live since Daniel Bryan returned from injury to return as a full-time competitor.
While Paige is the shot caller on Tuesday nights now, she recently joined former WWE Tag Team Champions Edge and Christian on their podcast, E&C's Pod Of Awesomeness, to talk about her new role.
In regards to her professional wrestling career as a competitor, Paige revealed something rather interesting. It turns out she may be able to wrestle again one day - but that won't be for another 15 to 20 years (quotes via NoDQ.com):
“My doctor said, maybe, in 15 to 20 years time I could return,” Paige said. “I don’t think I want to wrestle in 15 to 20 years time.
“People say ‘you’ll have the Daniel Bryan thing’ but the thing with Daniel Bryan is his problem was concussion. Ours is spinal, so it’s different.”
