All eyes will be on Steven Gerrard next season as he begins his managerial career with Rangers.

The Liverpool legend signed a four-year deal with the Scottish giants last week, describing the opportunity as a “no-brainer”.

“It was a different feeling in my stomach from other opportunities I have had to be a manager. I got a special feeling and I knew then that Rangers was for me,” the 37-year-old added. “I have confidence I can deliver here as a manager. A huge opportunity presented itself. I was very aware of the size of club having watched from afar for many years.”

Gerrard will officially take charge of Rangers this summer but is already looking at ways he can improve his squad ahead of the 2018-19 campaign.

His former Liverpool teammate Martin Skrtel is among Rangers’ current list of summer transfer targets.

Gerrard is now the man responsible for helping to ensure Celtic’s era of domination comes to an end.

The Bhoys have now won seven consecutive Scottish league titles and are aiming to make it 10 in a row over the next three seasons.

Gerrard's arrival boosts season ticket sales

Based on the two most recent Old Firm derbies, Celtic have every reason to believe that’s a real possibility.

Brendan Rodgers’ side hammered Rangers 4-0 in the Scottish Cup semi-final last month and then demolished their fierce local rivals 5-0 in the league two weeks later. But while the gulf in class between the two teams is huge right now, Gerrard’s arrival appears to have brought the feel-good factor back to Ibrox already.

Per the Scottish Sun, Gerrard’s appointment has boosted season ticket sales, with over 30,000 supporters already renewing for next season. That’s already more sign-ups than at the same time last year.

“The passion that was shown by the fans in attendance as we unveiled Steven as our new manager was incomparable,” the club’s managing director Stewart Robertson commented. “This loyalty and passion will never be taken for granted by the club, as we continue to work tirelessly towards creating a brighter future.”

And attracts 50,000 new social media followers

It’s also been revealed in the Daily Record how Gerrard’s arrival has boosted Rangers’ global profile.

Since he was unveiled last week, a remarkable 50,000 people have followed Rangers on their various social media platforms, which include Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram.

Several videos that Rangers have uploaded have attracted over 1.2 million views.

Impressive stuff.
