Liverpool will round off their Premier League season at home to Brighton on Sunday, knowing just one point will guarantee Champions League football next season.Jurgen Klopp’s side have stumbled over the line as far as a top-four finish is concerned with just one win from their previous five league matches. But you can hardly blame them for their stuttering league form considering they have a Champions League final on the horizon. If Liverpool somehow finish fifth in the league this season, they still have a chance of qualifying for the Champions League next season by winning the competition. The Champions League final is already a big enough game without that riding on it as well.Of course, Champions League qualification brings with it extra revenue and the ability to attract top quality players.Liverpool experienced that last summer with Mohamed Sarah.

THE ABILITY TO ATTRACT TOP QUALITY PLAYERS

Would Salah have opted for Liverpool if they hadn’t been playing Champions League football this season? Probably not.

However, Liverpool have already wrapped up one quality signing before even being ensured Champions League qualification.

In fact, they wrapped it even before a ball was even kicked.

Liverpool were so desperate to sign Leipzig’s Naby Keita last summer that, when a deal couldn’t be agreed, they made sure he would arrive in 12 months time.

But how much will the midfielder cost?

Well, a recent report revealed that he would set Liverpool back £59 million if Leipzig could qualify for the Champions League yet again.

If they didn’t finish in the top-four and could only manage 5th or 6th, Keita would cost Liverpool £52.75 million.

But if Leipzig finish 7th or below, Keita would cost Liverpool just £48 million.

So, with the German club heading into their final Bundesliga match, there’s £11 riding on it for Liverpool.

Leipzig currently sit 6th. However, they’re just two points adrift of Bayer Leverkusen in fifth and Hoffenheim in fourth as they still hope to qualify for the Champions League.

But there is also a danger of them dropping out of Europa League qualification places altogether. In fact, Borussia Monchengladbach - who are 9th - are just three points behind Leipzig.

So Keita’s side could finish anywhere from 4th to 9th.

Leipzig travel to 10th-placed Hertha Berlin, in what is sure to be a tense afternoon for the Bundesliga club.

Liverpool fans might also be keeping a close eye on proceedings hoping to save a cool £11 million.
