It's been a simply unbelievable breakthrough season for Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Despite making seven Premier League appearances in the 2016/17 season, it has been the current campaign where the right-back has made a name for himself as a flying full-back who is on the cusp of earning a Champions League medal at the ripe age of 19.

Such form he has been in has seen him pick up Liverpool's Young Player of the Season award for the second year running, and has broken such records this year like being the youngest ever Englishman to start in a Champions League quarter-final match when he lined-up against Manchester City in April.

In that game he successfully nullified City's hotshot winger Leroy Sane on the way to being named the official man of the match, as the Reds tore the Premier League winners apart 3-0 at Anfield.

Alexander-Arnold seems to have ousted long-term right-back Nathaniel Clyne as first choice for the position, with the latter struggling with injuries as of late.

He's also netted his first ever Premier League goal this season to add to the two he's notched up in Europe, so you could say it's been a pretty successful season for the scouser.

But Alexander-Arnold may never have signed for the Reds if a fascinating lucky dip when he was six years old hadn't taken place in his classroom.

"I was about six and Liverpool had a community summer camp," said the Liverpool wonderkid, as per the BBC.

"They sent a few invites to my school for my age group specifically and the teachers asked who wanted to go. Every lad in my class put their hand up so the only fair way was to pick names out of a hat.

"Luckily my name was picked out so I went along in half-term and within 30 minutes of the first drill or session one of the coaches went up to my mum and asked if she could bring me up two or three times a week from then on.

"Ever since then I've been at the club."

With all of the plaudits flying his way, could there be an England call-up on the agenda in the near future?

It looks like from recent games, Kieran Trippier will be Gareth Southgate's number one right wing-back for the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Russia, but with his best years ahead of him, there is still plenty of time for Alexander-Arnold to force his way into the setup and become a leading man for his country.
