There has been plenty of talk recently that Mohamed Salah could be the man to end Cristiano Ronaldo and Leo Messi's duopoly of the Ballon d'Or award.

The La Liga pair have won each of the last 10 Ballon d'Or awards between them.

However, Salah has been in incredible form this season at Liverpool, scoring 43 goals in all competitions so far.

Former Premier League midfielder Frank Lampard believes Salah can win the Ballon d'Or if he takes Liverpool to Champions League glory.

"After being named PFA Player of the Year, he can now put himself in the bracket for the Ballon d’Or too," said Lampard.

"It will be hard for him to break the group that is Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. It will take a lot to do that.

"But if he takes Liverpool to the Champions League title, that could well do it."

Salah on Messi & Ronaldo

The Egyptian winger, who joined the Reds from Roma last summer, is set to face Cristiano Ronaldo's Real Madrid in the Champions League final on May 26.

Salah's statistics have been remarkably similar to those of Ronaldo and Messi this season.

He responded with true class when asked about the comparisons between him and the two finest footballers in the world.

"I don’t want to say I am happy with these kind of comparisons," Salah told Egyptian TV channel ONE, as per the Liverpool Echo.

"Each of them has been at the top level for 10 or 11 years. Their performance level is stable.

"I need to maintain my performance levels high for many seasons.

"I hope I can do that. They are great players and hopefully I become happy with these comparisons."

Salah isn't even happy to be compared to them - his humble personality makes him so incredibly likeable.

Brighton up next

Liverpool must turn their attention to Sunday's final day of the season game at home to Brighton.

A draw would secure Champions League qualification next season, while Salah is looking to score one more goal to break the record for most goals in a 38-game Premier League season.

"We need to be completely focused on that game, we will be," said Jurgen Klopp.

"It's all about the next challenge. It is the last game of the Premier League season, so it's a big one.

"There are plenty of moments when everybody could be really happy, proud of this team. But on Sunday we have to deliver again, all of us."
