One of the main reasons behind the success of the Golden State Warriors has to be how they've managed to keep their superteam together or Steph Curry, Kevin Durant, Draymond Green, and Klay Thompson.

The Warriors have now reached the Western Conference Finals for the fourth year in a row in large part to what Curry, Green, and Thompson have managed to do on the court, with Durant contributing towards the success over the past two season as well.

However, there's a risk that all of that could come to an end soon, as Durant could become an unrestricted free agent in the offseason, while Thompson is set to become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2019. If reports are to be believed though, at least one player is going above and beyond what is expected in order to make sure that doesn't happen.

According to Marcus Thompson II of The Athletic, Thompson is discussing a multi-year contract extension with the Warriors, as this would not only keep him at the team for longer, but it would also save the franchise a lot of money compared to re-signing him as an unrestricted free agent in 2019.

If Thompson was to become an unrestricted free agent, he would be eligible to earn over $80 million more than if he were to sign an extension now. This extra spare money would allow more freedom for the Warriors to sign Durant to a max contract, as well as keep Curry and Green for longer, keeping the big four together.

We arguably should have seen something like this coming from Thompson, as he has been adamant about his desire to remain with Golden State for some time.

He said back in February to Mark Medina of The Mercury News: "Playing for one team your whole career is definitely special. Only so many guys have done it in professional sports, so it’ll be a goal of mine. Hopefully it all works out."

Thompson taking a team-friendly deal that would not only keep him off the market, but it would also allow the Warriors to keep together their superteam that has been dominating the NBA for the past couple of seasons. In turn, this could put them on the right path towards becoming one of the best dynasties the league has ever seen.
