Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder still appear to be on a collision course, even if negotiations are proving to be particularly sticky.

Eddie Hearn, AJ's promoter, supposedly made a $12.5m offer to Wilder to fight his man, though a deal couldn't be agreed at the time.

The American has also stated that he's made an offer in turn, which has been disputed in parts, and it appears as though the fans will have to wait some time for the pair to meet.

AJ and Wilder have both won all bar one of their respective fights by knockout, 20 to the former's name, while the latter has a whopping 39 stoppages.

It would certainly be an almighty fight if/when it is agreed, as they are arguably the two most destructive boxers in the business right now, and you can't argue with their records.

Wilder holds just the WBC belt, with Joshua in control of the IBF, WBA, WBO and the unrecognised IBO title too.

The victor would become the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world, a hugely prestigious honour, and could then look forward to a fight against the rejuvenated Tyson Fury.

However, that's all in the distance, and there is still plenty of work to be done in order to sign this deal first.

There is a lot of hope though, particularly after AJ seemed to hint that they were close to an agreement on his Instagram.

His cryptic post drew up quite the stir, and it's easy to see why.

It looks as though he was throwing down the gauntlet to Wilder there, with the WBC initials capitalised in his post.

And the unified champion wasn't done there.

Once again on his Instagram, though this time on his story, he seemed to send a message to his fans that he was preparing to fight the 'Bronze Bomber'.

The caption of "studying" is particularly important, as it appears that he's doing his homework on Wilder during his victory over Luis Ortiz.

Joshua will have seen that his potential opponent was seriously rocked by Ortiz, and that can only give him confidence.

But these messages are clearly significant, and as a result it would be no surprise to see an announcement come soon.

It would be huge for boxing and all the fans, and we can only hope that it happens sooner rather than later.
