Giants safety Landon Collins is already in hot water his his new head coach. Collins took it open himself to tell WFAN's "Boomer and Gio" on Friday that offensive lineman Ereck Flowers skipped the team's voluntary offseason program last month over the signing of left tackle Nate Solder."He's just unhappy that they picked up [Nate Solder]," Collins said via Ralph Vacchiano of SNY. . "That's it."

“Definitely, I would say he needs to be here, as a teammate and as a captain because we need him here, need to get the line together so they can be on the same page,” The Pro Bowl safety continued. “We got a quarterback, we got a running back, we got these talented wide receivers, we got to run with this. . . .

“Ereck is my boy. At the same time, he has a lot to learn, and at the same time he has to work harder. He came in last year, he thought he did what he needed to do — he lost weight, he was in proper shape, thought he played good in the first couple of games and just kind of went downhill when the season went downhill.

“After being a first-round draft pick, he don’t want to be called a bust.”

It's not the first time Collins has spoken out of place about a teammate, and Shurmur was quick to put his defensive leader firmly in his place.

"That's not for Landon to talk about," Shurmur said. "I don't think our players should be talking about another player's situation."

Flowers was asked to shift to right tackle following the team's addition of Solder, but has yet to appear at the team facility to work on his craft at a new position. Instead, the former first-round pick has stayed in Miami to work out on his own.

It's understandable that Collins would be frustrated that an important player isn't attending camps, but his tendency to talk in a derogatory manner about teammates in the media is not one that goes down well.

His head coach seems far less concerned about Flowers' absence too, so maybe the former Alabama standout needs to reign in his opinions just a little.

Shurmur revealed that although Flowers hasn’t been with the team, he has been in contact with the them.

“We’ve been in contact with Ereck. I heard he’s in good shape,” Shurmur said. “I can’t wait for him to be here. Like I said, there were some things he did last year that were really good. I look forward to him being here at some point and working with him.”

Flowers isn't doing himself any favours by not attending team workouts, but it seems like he's still in the Giants' plans for 2018.
