Mohamed Salah entered his name into the record books in Liverpool’s 4-0 win over Brighton on the final day of the Premier League season.

The Egyptian forward, recently named the PFA Player of the Year, scored his 32nd league goal, breaking Alan Shearer’s record in a single 38-game season.

It’s been a sensational season for Salah, who beat Tottenham’s Harry Kane to the Golden Boot.

Salah has 44 goals to his name in all competitions and Liverpool fans hope he has more left in the tank for the Champions League final against Real Madrid.

The 25-year-old has been mentioned in the same sentence as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo this season but it’s too premature for that.

Messi and Ronaldo have been the best two players in the world for a decade; Salah has enjoyed one world-class season.

In order to justify being spoken in the same way that football fans do about the La Liga stars, Salah is going to have to do it next season… and the season after… and the season after… and the season after.

Salah's response

But he seems ready for the challenge.

When asked if he can reach the same heights that he has this season after the win over Brighton, Salah replied: “I will, I will. Don’t worry.”

He immediately offered a grin after making the promise.

Salah is well on his way to becoming a Liverpool legend - every one of Jurgen Klopp’s players will earn that status if they defeat Real Madrid in Kiev - but the target now is to do it year in, year out.

His achievements are even more remarkable when you consider how much Salah struggled in his first spell in England and that dismal time at Chelsea made Salah eager to return.

"It was always on my mind to perform the best I can,” the Egypt international said, per Sky Sports.

“I had two great seasons in Rome but it was always in my mind to come back to the Premier League to show the people who said I wasn't a success the first time.

“It was always in my mind to become a success in the Premier League."

You have to admire his attitude.
