CM Punk's professional wrestling career seems long and done, however, his mixed martial arts (MMA) career is alive and well.

Punk made his MMA debut back in 2016 for the UFC. He took on welterweight prospect Mickey Gall, who is a highly-decorated Gracie jiu-jitsu competitor. Immediately, Punk was taken down and battered via ground-and-pound.

Subsequently, Gall locked in a rear-naked choke that forced Punk to tap out. After spending two more years training, Punk is now ready to return to the Octagon.

Next month, on June 9th from his hometown of Chicago, Illinois, Punk will fight on the UFC 225 pay-per-view (PPV) when he takes on MMA journalist Mike Jackson.

Jackson was the man who welcomed Mickey Gall to the UFC for the opportunity to fight Punk in the first place. Punk actually lasted much longer than Jackson did against Gall, making their match-up all the more interesting.

While fans of Punk are waiting patiently for his Octagon return, it seems like there's a possibility that it won't go through. This is because of a current lawsuit going on between WWE and Punk.

Punk alleged that the WWE's medical staff mistreated an infection he had during his time with the company.

Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio speculates that this could have a dramatic affect on Punk's fight, as the case is set to go to trial on May 21st (quotes via Ringside News):

“I don’t know what he’ll say because he’s got that lawsuit. You know that lawsuit is going to trial on the 21st. You know that date’s official not, unless there’s a delay, May 21st the thing’s going to trial.

“In the middle of a lawsuit he’s going to fight and this is a lawsuit where he’ll be cross-examined and testify in.

"No, no, no, no that’s a bad deal. That’s a really bad deal. He’s going to have to get that thing delayed past June 9th.

"Because that doesn’t make any sense at all. But that’s the date that’s on the docket for. I’m shocked that it’s gone this far.”
