The UFC is running low on star power right about now, and could really use some of it.

Conor McGregor has been M.I.A since his boxing fight with Floyd Mayweather, and hasn't competed in mixed martial arts (MMA) since November of 2016 when he won the UFC lightweight title from Eddie Alvarez.

Jon Jones is currently in trouble with the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), Ronda Rousey has found a new home in professional wrestling with the WWE, and Brock Lesnar is also in WWE but needs six months of USADA testing before he can return.

So who can the UFC turn to in their time of need? Look no further than Nate Diaz. Diaz earned his claim to fame by becoming the first man in UFC history to defeat Conor McGregor inside the Octagon.

At UFC 196 in March of 2016, Diaz stepped in for injured Rafael dos Anjos to take on the Irishman. It was there that he submitted McGregor in the second round via rear-naked choke. After that, Nate Diaz's superstardom blew up.

A few months after his fight with McGregor the pair rematched in Las Vegas at UFC 202 in the T-Mobile Arena. McGregor picked up a close Majority Decision win after a hard-fought five rounds.

Diaz said after the fight that he'd be waiting for his trilogy bout with the Irishman and wouldn't fight until he gets it. He has remained loyal to that word - until now.

McGregor's fighting future is currently up in the air, and if he does return he has some business with UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov to tend to. Diaz is tired of waiting around for McGregor and is looking to fight again.

There's just one problem - nobody interests the Stockton native. He has been linked to rumors of a possible fight with former UFC welterweight and middleweight champion Georges St-Pierre - but he shot those down after accusing him of cheating when he fought his brother Nick in 2013 (quotes via MMA Junkie):

“No, I’m not fighting that fight,” Diaz said.

“Like I said (on Facebook), he cheated when he fought my brother (Nick Diaz at UFC 158 in 2013), so I just had to bring up old sh-t because they’re trying to brush it off like it’s nothing,” Diaz said.

“I got other sh-t to do, and it was just weird because we never even really talked about it.”

Diaz apparently asked for a specific fighter that he wanted to throw down with - refusing to name who it was - but those plans fell through:

“There was a fight I asked them for, and now that that fell through, we’re back to square one,” said Diaz.

“What people don’t understand is that any fight I fight is going to be a money fight,” Diaz said. “I’m not waiting for anybody.

"I’m just waiting for a motherf-cker to do something. Let’s get a real fight going. I’m not going to be involved in no weak sh-t."

Why is it so hard for Diaz to find a fighting partner? Simple. Nobody interests him at the moment - so he's inclined to wait until someone does:

“Nobody interests me right now, but I’m interested in doing something,” Diaz said. “I don’t think the UFC wants any of those fights to happen because we haven’t been talking about none of them. So time will tell.

What are your thoughts on Diaz saying that nobody interests him at the moment for a potential UFC return fight? Do you think we're going to see Diaz return to the Octagon soon? And who would you like to see him fight? Let us know your thoughts on the matter in the comments section below!
