Barcelona forked out £10.5 million to sign Yerry Mina from Palmeiras on a five-and-a-half-year contract back in January.By today’s standards, that’s a drop in the ocean for a top-level centre-back.Mina was 23 years old and had been capped multiple times for Colombia. He also appeared to possess all the tools required to become a first-class central defender. The South American is 6ft 5in tall and blessed with incredible pace and strength. Aside from his impressive physical attributes, it was also understood that he was good on the ball - a prerequisite for any Barça signing - and could pick a pass.“Yerry Mina now comes to Barça with the opportunity to continue developing as a footballer following his move to Europe,” a statement read on Barcelona’s website. “Without a doubt the Colombian has the potential to make it.”Mina immediately endeared himself to the Barcelona fans by walking onto the Camp Nou pitch in barefoot during his unveiling and then impressed on his debut - a 0-0 draw against Getafe - in February. However, we’ve only seen the Colombian defender on a handful of occasions since then. For one reason or another, Ernesto Valverde doesn’t seem to trust the January signing.

What's being said about Yerry Mina

Mina was handed a rare start in Barça’s trip to Levante on Sunday but was unable to prevent the Catalan giants slumping to a bizarre 5-4 loss - their first La Liga defeat of the season.

Barcelona supporters pinned the blame on the Colombia international for the shock defeat and many believe he's out of his depth right now.

And it wasn’t just fans on social media who were left berating Mina’s ’disasterclass’.

The Mirror handed Mina a 3/10 rating, adding: “A lamentable performance from the Colombian which showed exactly why Valverde hadn’t trusted him to this point.”

Video of Mina's 'highlights' v Levante

A video has also emerged of Mina’s ‘highlights’ from the match, although it conveniently omits all five of Levante’s goals.

While his passing was okay, the defensive side of his game left a lot to be desired.

On the basis of this performance, it’s patently clear that Mina has a lot to learn before he’s ready to play first-team football for Barcelona.

Some fans now have major doubts over whether he’s even good enough to be at the Camp Nou.

Only time will tell, but it wouldn’t be a complete shock if wasn’t at Barcelona this time next year.
