John Cena’s time in the WWE is clearly coming to an end, certainly from a full-time perspective, and fans will want the 16-time world champion to feud with some of the biggest names possible.

There were mixed feelings at WrestleMania 34 when Cena was squashed in an impromptu match against The Undertaker after weeks of keeping the storyline relevant with some epic promos.

FUTURE

Due to the somewhat underwhelming ending, it has resulted in many believing that a rematch at WrestleMania 35 could be on the cards, while the only other Cena appearance we have seen since his loss in New Orleans was in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia as he defeated Triple H at the Greatest Royal Rumble.

It’s clear that the younger stars on the WWE roster will do what they can to get a piece of Cena - who wouldn’t want to take on perhaps the biggest superstar of all time at WrestleMania? Well, that challenge was made not too long ago and in the perplexing world of Cena’s Instagram, he has acknowledged the challenge and fans on social media are clearly very excited at the prospect of a bout between the two.

When WWE.com caught up with NXT’s EC3 - formerly Derrick Bateman on the same show - he was asked whether he was targeting any superstars in WWE and claimed Cena was on his radar.

He said: “Yes. I want to vanquish John Cena at WrestleMania.”

EC3 wouldn’t be blamed if his challenge fell on deaf ears as hundreds of stars have probably wanted the same thing over the years. Although they do train together behind the scenes in Cena’s gym, Cena took to his Instagram account to acknowledge the challenge with a picture of EC3 and his challenge as a quote.

RESPONSE

While it’s clearly too early to even be planning what Cena could be doing at WrestleMania, especially since EC3 is only just starting in NXT, those that have followed his career are understandably excited about what the two could achieve, both in the ring and on the microphone.

If Cena’s time is coming to an end in WWE, perhaps the best way to use him would be to help put over talented younger stars with plenty of potential, and it’s difficult to look past someone like EC3 on NXT as the perfect example.

Cena’s Instagram activity is hit and miss when it comes to accuracy. When he’s not busy trolling, he was famous for teasing a Kenny Omega debut - which proved to be false - while hinting at AJ Styles arriving in WWE too - which was true.

Only time will tell which column this one falls under.
