The Panthers know more more than most what it's like to have a yapper at cornerback after having infamous trash-talker Josh Norman on their roster for four years. Norman's play backed up his talk right up until his exit from Carolina in 2016, but it seems like they may have unearthed the All Pro corner's like-for-like replacement in the form of Donte Jackson. Jackson, their second round pick from the 2018 draft, isn't short on confidence and Ron Rivera certainly sees a lot of Norman in the former LSU star. He might not have the same skills on the field just yet, but he sure has the talkative nature already.

Carolina reporters got a glimpse of Jackson's flamboyant side after workouts at the team's rookie minicamp  on Friday when a comparison to Josh Norman and his Batman alter-ego came up.

"I talk," Jackson said, via the Panthers' official website. "But I don't really do the superhero thing. I wake up like this. Just a natural edge. Like Beyoncé said, 'She woke up like that.'"

Rivera caught a snippet of what his rookie corner said and asked the group of reporters to confirm: "Did he just quote Beyoncé?"

"He did," the longtime head coach was told in reply.

"He is a personality. He's got a lot of confidence. You see it on the field. You see it when you talk to him. You watch it in his gait, the way he carries himself.

"That's the type of attitude you have to have if you want to play in this league. You have to have a certain type of swagger. Josh Norman had it. He had it from Day One. You guys saw it. He struggled a little bit, but because of his swagger, he was able to bring himself back. Well, this young man's got something."

Jackson's swagger, both on and off the field will bring a much needed attitude to a shaky secondary in Carolina. The defense finished 18th in the league against the pass and is in dire need of a playmaker on the back end, which the second-round pick is perfectly capable of being.

More than that, he believes he can be that guy in the mould of Norman that comes up trumps in the clutch.

"I play with confidence," Jackson told reporters. "I'm going to talk about it. Walk it like I talk it."

His blazing 4.32 speed, and strong college production that included four picks and 19 passes defensed certainly back up his confidence, but coming close to Norman's elite level will be a hard task for the rookie.
